This is a short animation I did the animation for in early 2026. It takes place in the Brawlhalla universe, with the characters 'Magyar', 'Rayman' and 'Asuri' (in order of appearance).
This animation was fun to do. I had a lot of fun animating Rayman, as there were multiple elements to his animation (for example, the entire patty falling out of the burger while he's rambling).
For Magyar, I wanted to get across the very concept of 100 souls in an empty suit of armor, roaming around the halls of Valhalla. I had them walk funny, looking around and getting to know the area. While I could have animated the souls with more energy to them instead of wiggly lines, I wanted to make the awkward walking clearer, and set the scene for a funny animation. So I opted for the souls just being wiggly lines.
For Rayman's animation, a plus is that he's a bunch of parts - so I animated him with that in mind. Each component has it's own motion going on to cohesively form Rayman as he is in the final animation. I wanted his hand motions to resemble the characteristic or 'trait' I've seen in film and television of the angry/agitated person with food, with food in one hand, and a lot of motion in the other.
For Asuri's animation, she's gnawing on a fish, which she's failing at. I did this as a funny motion for her to do, and so it wasn't too distracting from Rayman, who is the focal point at the time.
My two biggest struggles that I have since learned from at the time of posting this, is consistency in character detail and consistency in my lines and proportions. Asuri's details when she's gnawing on a fish and looking up see a noticeable detail that I had missed sorely from lack of character reference (I had found various references online, some of which included in-game designs instead of animation design). This is a simple learning opportunity that I have since learned from.
Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out. I learned a lot from this and aspire to keep learning more and more. I absolutely adore animation.
